Conman scams 94-year-old veteran

Police seek the public’s help in identifying a con artist who used an auto repair scam to steal “a large sum of money” from a 94-year-old World War II veteran.

On March 11 at about 1 p.m., the crook approached the victim in the Walgreen’s parking lot at 7201 Castor Ave. and told the victim that the wheel on his car was wobbling. The scammer said he could fix the wheel, but it would cost the old man a lot of money, police said. The crook drove the victim to a bank on the 7300 block of Castor Ave. and persuaded him to withdraw money. The crook took the money and fled in an unknown direction.
